Spirit Lake: The House Next Door pt.7

“You look like hell.” A well-rested Margo decided to wander into the kitchen around ten.

I was jealous.

“I feel like hell.” I nursed my fourth cup of coffee.
It wasn’t working.
That odd sense of fear hadn’t left either. I still felt like someone was watching me.

My eyes glance towards the house next door.
It was still and dark.
Just an empty house.

No matter how many times I repeated those words, part of me refused to believe it.

“You on unboxing duty today?” Margo poured herself a cup of coffee and sat across from me.

“The home edition. Zack is the one handling the store.”

“I can’t believe he actually did it. Beach Reads. How fucking cheesy.”

“Cheesy attracts tourists.”
I sip my coffee.

“How long do you think you can take small town life?”

“As long as Zack can.” I sigh. “I said for better or worse. I’m guessing worse includes moving to bumfuck nowhere to help your husband live out his dreams.”

“He’s got you good.” Margo laughed.
