I woke up around three.
I can’t catch my breath.
I glance around the room.
Something is watching me.
I glance towards the closet, then the door.
Nothing.
Slowly my eyes move towards my window.
I stand up, walking across the room quietly, trying my best
not to wake up Zack.
Our window looks directly into the upstairs window of the
house next door.
The supposedly empty house.
I wasn’t sure, but I thought I saw something.
I thought I saw… eyes. They were glowing a dull red.
I thought I saw… eyes. They were glowing a dull red.
Then they were gone.
“Sweetie?”
Zack sat up in bed, his voice groggy.
“It’s nothing.” I don’t turn around. Even though the eyes
are gone, I can still feel something watching me.
“Come back to bed.” Zack reaches out to me with a sleepy
hand.
I crawl back into bed, pulling close to him.
I don’t sleep for the rest of the night.
